If your teen needs orthodontic treatment, there's a good chance they aren't particularly thrilled about it! On the bright side, Orthodontics has come a long way in recent years, and there is a variety of low-profile and convenient treatment options to choose from.
Going through orthodontic treatment no longer means living with a mouth full of metal for months or years. The following treatment options are just a few of the alternatives to traditional braces that are available to teens these days:
Lingual Braces
Lingual Braces are like metal braces except that they are attached to the ‘back’ sides of the teeth; that is, the side facing into the mouth, toward the tongue. Lingual braces are not easy for others to see, so, so your teen may be able to keep the fact that they are undergoing orthodontic treatment mostly hidden.
Invisalign
Invisalign orthodontic aligners are custom-made of clear plastic. They straighten teeth just like traditional braces do, but offer a much more low-profile appearance due to their transparent nature.
Another benefit to Invisalign is that although they must be worn almost full time, they can be removed to eat, and to brush and floss. This means fewer dietary restrictions associated with Invisalign, and that it'll likely be easier for your teen to maintain his or her normal oral hygiene routine.
In-Ovation Precision Mini Metallic Braces
In-Ovation system braces are smaller and lower profile than traditional metal braces. They are also ‘self-ligating’, meaning elastics and ties are unnecessary, and they don't need to be regularly tightened.
‘Translucent’ Ceramic Braces
'Translucent' braces only appear to be translucent, because they have brackets that are made out of a strong, durable ceramic material in a colour that closely matches the natural colour of the teeth. This helps them blend in, giving them a much less obvious appearance than regular braces.
